Tomando prestado el título de la obra homónima de Velázquez (“El bobo de Coria”), esta obra es una exploración crítica y sarcástica de un político ególatra e incompetente que ejerció en la noble ciudad de Tarifa, dejando tras sí un reguero de nefastas actuaciones disparatadas y caprichosas. Generalmente, las personas incompetentes disfrazan sus carencias intelectuales bajo una máscara de soberbia y agresividad; en este caso, tales actitudes deforman el rostro del protagonista, creando una enorme tensión en sus rasgos faciales. Al final, la imagen que se transmite es grotesca y risible, a tono con su desdichada trayectoria política.

THE HALF-WIT OF TARIFA (Acrylic / wooden board - 77,5 x 60 cm   2018)

Borrowing the title from the work by Velázquez (“The half-wit of Coria”), this work is a critical and sarcastic exploration of an egomaniacal and incompetent politician who practiced in the noble city of Tarifa, leaving behind a trail of nefarious, crazy and whimsical acts. Generally, incompetent people disguise their intellectual deficiencies under a mask of arrogance and aggressiveness; in this case, such attitudes deform the protagonist's face, creating an enormous tension in his facial features. In the end, the image that is conveyed is grotesque and laughable, in keeping with his unfortunate political career.
